Lower back pain misperceptions: you can heal your back
Lower back pain is a common health problem worldwide. In fact lower back pain is the number one cause of disability worldwide.
Lower back pain
At the chiropractic clinic, lower back pain is one of the most common symptoms we treat. The other day I was talking to one of our patients who has chronic lower back pain. She has a history of recurring, acute, lower back pain episodes due to a chronic disc problem. When this happens to my patient she hits the wall. She can't do anything, she falls apart. She cries a lot and basically shuts down. But recent research out of the University of Otago, New Zealand, shows that a lot of people have misperceptions about their lower back. They think it's weak. They think they can't do exercise. They think they must rest more. They basically paint themselves into the corner of life where they can't dance anymore. I believe this perception has to be turned around.
The back is not that easy to hurt. It's not that hard to heal. You need to talk to your chiropractors about how you might -possibly- have misperceptions about your spine. Turn around and make it positive. Your back can be a lot stronger. And you will be a lot happier.
