Our Perth Chiropractors
Dr Paul Staerker
AAS(Chem), BSc DC
Dr Paul entered pre-medicine and majored in chemistry and physics, to then obtain a degree of Doctor of Chiropractic in Lombard, Illinois USA. Next, Paul set up the largest chiropractic clinic in the Italian Emilia-Romagna region – Centro Medico di Chiroprassi. From 1979 onwards Paul enjoyed watching Australians get better, teaching chiropractic in Melbourne and running a private practice. In 1983 he partnered with Dr Miriam Minty at the then Causeway Chiropractic Clinic, and opened Burswood Health Professionals in 1993 as a new, purpose-built multi-disciplinary clinic. He’s proud of his team who shares his vision of improving lives.
Dr Peter Bryner
M Chiro Sc, B App Sc (Chiro)
Dr Peter Bryner holds a Masters Degree in Chiropractic Science, and a Graduate Diploma in Human Services Research. He has taken many opportunities to get additional training, and has taught chiropractic himself for 13 years. Dr Peter applies a variety of methods at the practice, from adjustments and manipulation to massage, dry needling and rehabilitative exercises. His approach is to tailor the care to suit the client’s needs. He also has a particular interest in chiropractic research, participates in international research and presents at conferences nationally and internationally. Dr Peter has a website on pain drawings and Dr Peter’s ResearchGate profile will give you more information on his work in research. Dr Peter is a member of the International Association for the Study of Pain, the World Federation of Chiropractic, and Chiropractic Australia. He believes that chiropractic care can be a valuable part of the healthcare system, and that health professionals can work together so people benefit from that when they are looking to treat or prevent pain.
Dr Abbey Chilcott
B.Sc (Chiro) (Hons) B Chiro (Hons) GradCert PopHealth
Dr Abbey Chilcott holds a double degree in Science and Chiropractic from Murdoch University. Her research honours degree saw her working alongside a Perth neurosurgeon exploring the accuracy of orthopaedic and neurological testing in diagnosing lumbar radiculopathy. Dr Abbey Chilcott has gained a wealth of experience in managing sports injuries through her work with the Seattle Mariners baseball team in the USA, at the Mr Price Pro surfing competition in South Africa and at The International Waterpolo Competition in Perth. In 2008 Abbey was awarded the Marcia Cerutty Award for clinical excellence from the Chiropractor’s Association of Australia and the DRS Award for medical excellence in clinical imaging. She has pursued postgraduate public health studies at UWA and is a clinical supervisor in a university student clinic. She currently holds an appointment as a practitioner member on the Chiropractic Board of Australia.
Dr Angus Chow
BSc (Chiro), B Chiro
Dr Angus Chow graduated from Murdoch University (2015) with a double degree in Chiropractic. He is originally from Hong Kong. Given his multicultural back ground, he likes to think every individual is different and each person needs to be treated differently. He embraces the Burswood Health philosophy, tailoring your treatment to your individual needs. Angus is passionate to help you understand your goals and to help you achieve them. He has a special interest in paediatric and geriatric care. He takes a gentle approach with techniques such as soft tissue therapy, dry needling and diversified manipulation. Angus believes that good quality of life comes from prevention today.
Our Perth Occupational Therapists
M Occ Thy, B Sc (Ex & Sp Sc)
Occupational Therapist Kate holds a Bachelor Degree in Exercise and Sports Science from Edith Cowan University and a Master Degree in Occupational Therapy. She loves working with people in the context of their elite or community sports activities. Kate’s passion is to help people so they get back to living the lives they want to. Ever since she finished her degree in OT she has been working at Burswood Health Clinic, building on her experience as a swimming teacher, a sports trainer and a holiday program leader. What she loves about creating programs for people, is that the rehabilitation helps to overcome pain and get back to doing what people love doing. Kate also loves working with children, having completed studies in child development and physical education in 2014. She is now also implementing paediatric programs at Burswood Health, focusing on child development, injury prevention and learning. Helping them grow into confident young adults, that’s what it’s all about.
Perth born and bred, Katie holds Bachelor degrees in Occupational Therapy (OT) from Curtin University and Performing Arts from Edith Cowan University.
As a Soft Tissue OT Katie adopts a partnership mentality, working with you to achieve your personal therapy goals by using a range of methods including myofascial release, trigger point therapy, postural retraining, performance analysis of daily activities and basic exercise coaching.
With a lifetime of dance experience at an international professional level, Katie has invested in developing a holistic OT practice for elite performing artists, including dancers and musicians. Katie recognises the importance of quality pain and injury management, incorporating education, hands-on muscle therapy, prevention strategies and thorough rehabilitation. Katie combines her knowledge of human movement and anatomy, soft-tissue healing processes and optimum performance; helping you engage fully in your valued occupations.
Our Perth Podiatry Team
BSc (Hons), APodA, AAPSM
Satvinder was trained in the UK; she completed her Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Podiatry at Brighton University. She has over 15 years’ experience in private practice. Satvinder has a strong focus on biomechanics and diabetic foot care, which she has developed during her time working in her own clinic in one of London’s top health clubs and being part of a multidisciplinary team in the National Health Service. She is also an active member of Sports Medicine Australia. Her keen interest in alternative medicine has allowed her to develop skills in acupuncture, reflexology and reiki.
Outside of work hours Satvinder enjoys her energetic life as a mother of two and outdoor activities with her family.
Sue holds a Bachelor of Science in Podiatry from Curtin University and a Bachelor of Applied Science from Victoria University. She has worked as a podiatrist for 20 years in private practice, aged and community care and held a fairly unique role as a fly-in fly-out podiatrist servicing Esperance and surrounds. Sue volunteers her time as a member on various committees, both in podiatry and sport, and also works in education which is her other passion alongside podiatry. Outside of her work commitments, Sue is the mother of two teenage children and is actively involved with their sports, in particular basketball, AFL and hockey.
