Children with back pain: is it really a problem?

Children with back pain are no exception. It's quite common for children to experience back pain after a sports injury, and that then defines how your child looks at exercising and working out.

But when they change their habits, dropping certain types of exercise, they may develop into adults with chronic bad backs. So if your child suffers from back pain, it's wise to keep a close eye on the causes and the treatment.

How children with back pain can suffer from other problems

A minor sports injury can lead to muscle spasm, and that's what causes some back muscles to work harder than others. It then causes fatigue, pain and changes in posture and habits.

All of this can lead to...right, more back pain. So in the end your child simply gives up on exercise and this can cause further problems.

Let's talk about prevention

With all this at stake, it's good to build in some really good habits at a young age. This will help your child to avoid back pain during and long after childhood.

It's all about reducing spinal stress. So regular walking and stretching is definitely a good habit. And it may feel challenging to implement this new habit at first, but soon your child will start feeling the benefits and the amazing changes that simple stretches create if you do them well, and on a regular basis.

If your son or daughter is sitting behind a computer for longer periods of time, encourage them to take stretching breaks. Our bodies are not designed to sit for hours and hours, so it's good to make your child aware of this at a young age.

Proper sitting and good posture are also essential habits for children with back pain. Once you manage to change those habits, you're one step closer to preventing back pain for the future.

An active lifestyle! A lot has been said about it, and yet we're all at risk of becoming more passive, with more and more electronic devices competing with sports, the playground, or simple outdoor activities. By encouraging and stimulating your children to lead an active life, you're giving them an opportunity to take good care of their body.

Plan regular spinal checks for your daughter or son. We recommend they see a therapist every 6 months. Just like you wouldn't ignore your dental check-ups, it's a good habit to do spinal checks for yourself and particularly for your children.

Why Chiropractic helps

Children with back pain can benefit tremendously from chiropractic treatment. It eases joint stiffness. It relieves pain and muscular tension. It prevents injury.

Chiropractic treatment for children with back pain also stimulates tissue repair, relieves headaches, and improves sleep. And did you know that it simply increases energy and reduces stress?

Finally, seeing a chiropractor will help your child optimise spinal balance and posture.
